The sad thing is, I was outside with him when this happened and even if he was on his leash, it was one of those that extend, which would not have saved him as the coyote attacked him right in front of me just a few feet away. I have always been outside with him by his side, watching out for owls or hawks, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought a coyote would attack. They have always been far away out in the fields. I never thought I could cry so much - he wasn't "just a dog" he was a loving companion, friend and did everything with me and my husband - my husband, who did not want another dog after all our children left home, is completely broken and devastated - he had prostrate cancer 2 years ago, and Max would not leave his side after his surgery. He truly lived up to his name - Maximus after the Gladiator! His memory gives me comfort. Thank you all for helping me through my grief.

So sorry you had to witness this. Sounds like it was just one of those freek accidents. This could of happened to any of us!! I have been praying for you and your husband.
