The definition for Mutt was "mixed breed" which is what a maltese/yorkie mix (aka "morkie")is. I believe the "inferior dog" is in the way most people use the term mutt. Mixed breed dogs are definitely not inferior but mixed breed=mutt. It's not meant to be a bad term. Only if you are using it in a way to mean inferior dog which Ladymom was not.

Anyway, where did you get that a maltese was never mixed? Maybe you should read this history of the maltese origin http://www.annasheavenlymaltese.com/...e_history.html

According to the histories I've read, along with this article, a maltese is a descendent of a spitz-like dog. As the maltese was developed, miniature spaniel and poodle were mixed in.
