Ok here is what I think..lol

I have 4 yorkies...we bar them on sometimes in the kitchen, and many times in crates..they feel safe in both places..I think if I did not use the crate at all, then it would not take long for him to say, hey I do not like this anymore..
then you get the dogs, that there crate will always be there den. a lot depends on the dog alone...

If we are away in the RV if I put them in crates they remain much more quiet. no windows to look at of and bark at anyone that goes by.

I think having them use to a crate is always good, then if it is really needed they will not mind...
