Yes, I think so.. if that's what you routinely will do. Bailey was never crated at night, only when I leave the house. So now when I pick up my purse and keys he knows he's either going with or in the crate..so he waits for my look and if I look towards the crate..he goes right in and waits for his treat.
I have always crated him when I'm gone.. I would like to let him wander but I tried it once while I left for a short while and my neighbor watched him go from sliding door to windows..nonstop..so he's just more comfortable in his crate. So why mess with a good thing.
