 potty training problem!
hi! i'm new to the forum and i thought it looked like i could get great advice here!
we've had our puppy for almost a year now and we are nowhere close to potty training him. we keep him in a pen during the day while hubby and i are at work and he doesn't even go on his pee pad half of the time, so we can't even get him pad trained, much less house trained!
it may have a lot to do with us not being home during the day because of long working hours, but we try our best on weekends to train him. we are stern when he has accidents and positive when he goes outside. it's frustrating because we sometimes will take him out, and he won't go potty, but then 5 minutes later he will go in the house right in front of us. that just tells me we are nowhere close.
it's bad because at this rate he'll never be able to have free run of our house or sleep with us. i know his life would be so much better if he had those freedoms, but it doesn't seem like it'll ever happen. we have cats that love to taunt him while he's in his pen too. they lay outside his pen and just stare at him like he's an animal in a zoo. poor thing.
any ideas on what we can do? i'm about out of hope at this point. it feels like we haven't made any progress in nearly a year. |
