Capstar is usually used when you plan to take you dog into a public place and don't use any other flea preventative.
What you use is a matter of personal preferance.....and what works best for your dog. I try not to use any chemicals unless necessary. But, when I do....I put it on 24 hours prior to bathing...so, I don't leave it on more than that.
