We had a thread before when I was microchipping Coby on this same topic. I agree that, as well as every shelter and animal control center, every vet should scan every new pet!! When I take Coby in, the vet lets me ask that he be scanned every time to make sure the code comes up right, etc. (Silly, I know.)
One of the micro chip commercials was on today and said that they've reunited 40,000 pets with their owners (I don't recall if that was last year or so far). Until there is the next technology, this is all I can do.
And I was shocked to learn just this week that our animal control does NOT work with our human society, so found pets are given 7 days for tags and collars, 3 days for none. That's it!! Very few are processed for adoption. So if you are on vacation or in the hospital and no one calls animal control daily, the chip might be the only way to save your pup. So sad!!
