You should most definately find out. It is very serious. Intrahepatic (inside the liver) shunts are not operable and you just support the dog. Usually extrahepatic (outside the liver) shunts are operable and it has to be done. Usually Yorkies get extrahepatic. There is also MVD (microvascular dysplasia) which is little shunts that can't be repaired. How does your vet know that your dog has a shunt? What tests were done? What are the symptoms?
