Considering the setting and the circumstance, I don't think it was rude of you to ask. It's a different story when a random stranger comes up to you and the only question they ask about your dog is how much did you pay for him/her. It just makes them come off as nosey.

I was at an indoor dog park one time, and there's this guy who comes all the time with his Italian Grayhound. I think his dog is absolutely gorgeous, so we were talking and I asked how much he paid for his. I wasn't trying to be rude, I just wanted to know how much dogs like his went for and maybe I would consider getting one, one day.... Was that rude of me? |
