If she gains too much, then cut back, if she loses then increase the food, if she doesn't gain or lose then she's eating the right amount unless she is already underweight. Feeding a specific amount is taylored to your own dog. Some dogs are more energetic than others so they need a little more calories. If the dog is very laid back and not too active, then they don't need as many calories as the real active dogs.
