As a former mortgage lender, whenever we did a loan, the client had to get homeowner's insurance and name the lender as the loss/payee on the insurance policy. That way if there is destruction to the house, the bank gets paid first.
I sure hope people only have to make the payments for the amount of time it takes for the insurance company to settle with the lender.
