Most people who breed ethically don't have money left over in the end. Yes, they place the pups they don't hold back because they can't keep them all, but the money made goes back into their programs....they are lucky to break even. 'Supply and demand' (aka a fad) should NEVER be a reason to breed, IMO. Dedication and love for a breed and the desire to preserve it are one thing, breeding 'cute puppies' because they sell and that is what everyone wants is another.

Can't say I disagree with you there. I've had my experience with a dog with baggage and know the heartache that can cause. But don't you know, at one point in time, those shelter dogs were born to fill what was once 'supply and demand' in their time--sadly, the fad that brought them into this world passed and they got dumped. That is another thing scary about people 'mixing at the rate they do.' As soon as that so-called 'designer dog' starts showing the traits of a dog that was ill bred all because the "breeder" (and I used that term loosely) wanted to have money and irresponsibly bred what people wanted at the time, he's gonna get dropped off at the pound with all of the other mutts.
