It would make things easier if your husband were more cooperative, but since he is not, this is my recommendation.
When you take them out of the crate, take them out to potty immediately, just like you did. I would bring both puppies back in and put the one that did not potty back in the crate. after about 5-10 mins take him back out to potty again. Keep this up until he potties outside. In the meantime, go about the business of playing and feeding with the other one.
Use really really good treats for potty. This is the only treat they get to go potty outside. Use liverwurst, chicken, hotdog (use very small pieces) or something really good like that. After a while they will beg to out just to get the treat. But no treat until potty.
You are going to have to keep them contained in one room only until they are fully housebroken. this room MUST be the room you are in. You cannot take your eyes off them for a second, as long as they are loose.
When you cannot watch them, they go outside to potty again and back in the crate, until your time is free again. You need to increase the time they are in the crate from 1,2, 3, 4 hours, so they learn to hold it. But this must be done over a period of time.
If your husband could help you, this would be easier, as you would not be spending 24/7 just working on their potty training. Your are going to have to do nothing but focus on the potty training thing until they get it. If that means husband has to fend for himself, so be it. He can cook the meals, do the laundry, clean the house etc.
Just tell him you are going about the business of getting them trained, just like he wants them to be. Sacrifices must be made, but it will be temporary, but it could take a couple of months of rigorous surveillance of the puppies until that happens. |
