This is the way I would do it: Once you have your fabric cut out you can sew your d-ring on, either using a heavy sturdy ribbon, or webbing. Then you can sew your pieces (top, bottom) together and ends will be hidden inside the seam. I personally like to reference clothing in the stores, so I can really see how pieces were sewn together. If you are using velcro make sure you get the heavy kind, so if your little one pulls they can possibly slip out of the harness.
