For your projects:
patterns - go for a simple one first
cheap fabric to begin with
velcro, d-ring, fastener, etc.
filling, foam, or pillow for bed
matching thread

You can find some inexpensive machines at walmart, target, overstock.com, craigs list, or an open box buy at your sewing store. You don't need anything fancy if your going to make basic stuff, later on you can invest in a better machine, or even a serger.
Thanks so much! You listed a few things I had forgotten about. I'm going to check with my grandmother for a sewing machine to see if she knows someone that's wanting to sell one, I was just going to get the one I used at my mom's but I got into it with her again and we're not on speaking terms.

I have another question since you're a lot of help. How do you got about getting the D-ring on there for a harness. Like after you make the dress, I'm confused as to if you just put the ring on some other fabric then sew that on or what because I doubt they have patterns that tell you how to do that part?
