I buy them for my house and a lot of offices.

They aren't down where any animal can get at them, and so far, I've never heard of an animal eating these plants. I don't think they are very tasty. Oleander are also very toxic, but they are everywhere you look here in CA. and I've not heard of any animal deaths from them. If your not comfortable giving certain live plants, then there are those really cute tiny Christmas trees, real and artificial that make a cute counter decoration. You could even buy the plain ones and add your own special touch to them.

I made dough art one year and put staff members names on them for the tiny trees. I did white bones along with the staff names for the Vets. office. They each had something to take home after they closed for Christmas. Just another idea.
