In a way, I had a similar situation when I bought Gizmo. In this area it was difficult to find even a halfway decent breeder since I was new to yorkies and had no contacts. I had to put a deposit down to get on a waiting list, but not for a specific puppy. I also wanted to time the puppy's homecoming with my summer break. So, I feel for you.
However, I made some mistakes when choosing my breeder that I didn't discover until later and the deposit was already made. Luckily, Gizmo is wonderful, but the key word there is "luck".
I would listen to what these ladies are telling you. Find the perfect pup for you and don't let anyone pressure you. A healthy yorkie is worth more money, more time, more travel, more research, more inconvenience in general.
Good luck and best wishes on your search.
