I had one one year that seemed to be made with sugar instead of corn syrup, the popcorn ball had a crystallized look and feel to it, I haven't had one of those in years, I would like to duplicate it though if I knew for sure how it was done!.....

Yes, they usually do. You take a bag of mini marshmallows and a cube of butter and melt them in a pan on the stove. Then pour over popped corn and mix up. Make balls. At least that's how I remember. I haven't made them for quite some time. Correct me someone if I am wrong. I think you might add vanilla, too, but not sure.
