DUH....I forgot to answer the part I think you really wanted an answer to....
When I noticed the tapeworms it did look like little white things...about the size of rice but not as long. That was at first glance and I didn't think too much of it....plus, I am 50 years old and really should wear my glasses when looking at such things.
But, later I did notice them more and (with my glasses) they look small, a longish oval shape......not as long as rice...and they might even appear flat...(not round and fat like a live worm.)
Once I noticed poop on the pee pad and went to change it...as I got closer I noticed what looked like little "trails" away from the pile of poop..... believe it or not I took a digital photo and carried it (along with the dog) to the vet....he said it was the worms....but did not specify if it was the tapeworms...after he did the stool test he treated her for tapeworms and "everything else"...I do recall she had tapeworms but don't recall any other worm he might have mentioned.
Hope this helps.....P.S The medicine for tapeworms is a very dangerous medicine for really tiny dogs. My vet said it was not to be given to pups under 2 pounds....fortunately Lil Bit had just hit the 2 # 2 oz mark...
Just a few months prior I had another tiny yorkie/chihuahua mix puppy who was f very sick from the first day I got her......at day 4 we found out she was INFESTED with tapeworms....she weighed only 12 ounces.....she was soo sick and dying...the vet said the medicine may kill her but without it she would surely die......he divided the dose down to her weight the best he could...but she died 12 hours later.... |
