Freedom of speech does not include the right to be nasty. Like you said , "that IS the case, to an extent."
Yes, say what you feel needs to be said....but learn to say it in a way that will be heard. (I'm not talking about you when I use the word "you." I don't think your posts are nasty).
If you post something and are told, in as tactful a way as possible, something you don't want to hear, it is productive. You might not like it, but you might think about it later. Most people, on the other hand, respond to nastiness with anger and shut down. Nothing is learned, and nobody is helped.
