I think that is rude to ask people what they paid for anything unless maybe they are your friend and you discuss those things. At least that is the way I was brought up. I think I would have something in mind to say like "enough" or "she was a gift" or maybe even "I'm sorry I don't feel comfortable discussing what I paid for her". I have started being a little more bold when dealing with rude people and if they are rude to me I don't really feel bad being rude back to them.

No one asked me how much I paid for my dogs but once a guy offered to pay me any asking price that I wanted for Teddy Bear because his wife had just lost her beloved dog who looked just like Teddy Bear. I told him that he wasn't for sale. I was shocked that someone would walk up to me and offer to buy my baby right out of my arms!

I would try not to be too upset about some things that people say. I don't think they even realize they are being rude. I once had a friend ask my cousins how much they paid for their boat that we were riding in at their invitation. I was sooooo embarassed. They told him but I don't think they appreciated the question. I didn't appreciate it either.

Ok, so much for my life story. LOL
