You guys will understand!
DD and I will leave here on 6/25 to go to FL for my niece's wedding- we'll return on 7/10. DH & DS will leave on 6/30 and not return until 7/7. I basically have 3 choices as to what to do with Mia for the week they are gone - each of which I'm already stressing over!
1. Take Mia to a kennel and board her. There is a VERY nice boarding/training/grooming one near my home, but it is a kennel. This would cost about $25/day($200 + grooming)
2. Put DH and DS on an airline that allows pets and make them bring her. The flight would cost $160, and I doubt she'd be very happy flying for 3 - 5 hours and we'd likely have to sedate/medicate her some. Problem here is we are in hotels & at wedding the 30/1/2 and then we are going to theme parks - Busch Gardens on 7/3 and then staying at Hard Rock Hotel on 7/4 - 7. She is fine when we are with her in a hotel, but cries nonstop when we leave. I MIGHT be able to leave her at my sister's or nieces the day we are at Busch, but both have aging Labs and I'm not sure how they would do. Otherwise, she would have to stay in the kennel at the themeparks or in our hotel room being noisy. There would be approx $100 in pet fees at the hotels, plus any fees at the theme park kennels.
3. I could block off my kitchen and she would have that area plus the attached sun porch. My oldest DS lives in an apt and could come by once a day to check on her, but likely would be in and out, not for any length of time. I could also pay a friend's son to come over daily for about an hour or so to play with her, but she would be alone most of the time. Maybe my DS's girlfriend could as well, but she doesn't drive due to seizures so not sure. Mia shreds her pee pads, so I'm sure the floor would be disgusting - she mainly goes outside. Plus, being alone for so long, even with lots of chew toys & stuff DH is afraid she might eat our cupboards, woodwork, & furniture.
Decisions, Decisions, Decisions. I did not sleep at all the other night pondering all of this - while she snuggled up next to me.
Any suggestions? We have a few months, but I'm not sure how to go about preparing her for any of these options.
TIA
Julie
