Coby was microchipped while being neutered. When getting his stitches removed, I had the vet scan him in front of me and show me the code did come up correctly. I haven't validated that my information is in the PetTrac database correctly yet, but plan to. But even if that gets messed up, the original code goes back to the chipper. So my vet would be contacted.
I had the vet scan him in front of me for two reasons: to make sure that I knew it worked, and to make the vet realize, that since I bothered with it, how important microchipping was to me. I plan to ask him to scan Coby each time partly for me and partly to increase the vet's use of the scanner.
I'm sure that scanner use will increase. A courtesy call to Lewis' vet may prompt him to either get the correct equipment or encourage him to scan new pets going forward.
And I believe that they have the multi-chip scanners that read all the chips. They are just more expensive. |
