Tobey growls when we play and sometimes will bark too, but his tail is wagging ferociously the whole time! I try to discourage the growling and barking if it gets excessive, mostly because I just don't think it sounds very respectful- I kinda take the attitude of "don't bark at me, I am your mommy!" so sometimes if he gets too crazy and carried away, I will turn away from him and he gets the message immediately because he will usually run in front of me and do a "down" as if he is saying "okay mom, I will be good now. Look! I did a down! I am a polite pup again!"
