I usually put my tree in the living room which we never use (we use the family room) I have an x-pen opened out so it is like a fence across the entrance to the living room. Actually I keep it up (the fence) year round because that is where I have my teddy bear collection and it keeps all of the dogs out. On Christmas day I will remove the fence as long as we are there to keep an eye on the dogs..Works for me!
