Hello all,
thanks for the responses. Yes, I do lift him out of the Xpen. He is placed in the living room on a piece of linoleum we bought/cut to fit the pen. I think he jumps out to find us, as it is usually when my husband leaves for work in the morning. What about overnight? How long can/should he be in the crate overnight? Maybe we should paper train? During the day, he goes out and will "go", but he will also use the paper. My husband wants him trained to go outside, but I myself hate taking him out at night (as do my 12 and 14yr old) because we live in a very dark, wooded area with bears and coyote. I'm a chicken!! He is very smart, and has mastered basic commands; come, sit, down, off. I can't imagine that he wouldn't catch on to potty training if I could get my act together. Is it ok if he uses paper at night when we are sleeping?
BTW, The crate was placed in the middle of the pen, maybe 5-6 inches on each side. He actually PUSHED it closer to the edge, and jumped over. He was very happy with himself when I came around the corner. He tried the same thing with a new empty litter box that I put his blanket in so he had a place to sleep, he tried to push it and climbed in, but could not reach the edge!

He sleeps in that now, but he was mad, biting at the edge of it and all. So, at 12 weeks, he can "hold it" for 3hrs?
Thanks again,
Liz
