Lucky my golden is the first floopy eared dog I have ever had to get ear infections (Left ear only). I got him from the breeder and he had one which the breeder told me about and he was already being treated with vet. supervision. Note he was the only one in a litter of 15 with one. He has had ear infections ever since which has been almost 10 years. He has very narrow canals and no hair instead of his ears to keep the bacteria and debris out. He loves the attention he gets when he gets his ears tended to. If I take out cotton balls and sit on the floor he will come over and put his head on my lap to have them cleaned. My vet. says that some dogs are much more prone to ear infections than other. Lucky only gets infections of his Left ear and never his right.

Cozy my yorkie 18 months has yet to ever have on. Knock on wood. I look in her ears every day and put some ear powder in them once a week but that is really it for her ear care. Cozy has very hairy ear canals.

Growing up my family had a Bichon- Hairy canals and zero infections.

My mother had dauscaunds and cocker spaniels as a kid and they never had ear infections either.

Good luck with your baby's ear infection.
