I agree wnalergia and I have posted many lengthy lectures on being civil and having respectful debate and discourse since joining this forum in March.
I think admin is trying...I really do...but it is a hard job and I recognize that. Plus admin has his own vews and as a human being he is human and is not any more perfect than the rest of us.
I liked the zero tolerance rule and the rule against cruel posts with the consequence of a suspension or a ban. The problem with enforcement of those rules is that they are judgment calls and very subjective. I have seen posts that, imo, were really mean and cruel go unpunished as well as perfectly civil posts, merely expressing an opinion, deleted because it might be controversial or some other subjective reason.
I am who I am and I respect everyone and their point of view but I draw the line at personal attacks. I do not tolerate them and neither should any of you no matter how passionate or controversial the subject. The subject matter is no excuse. It is uncalled for among civilized human beings.
I don't understand the need to be negative or to judge without all the facts and this is why I tend to give those atacked the benefit of the doubt. If I am proven wrong, I accept that and am sad that, once again, my belief in good over evil, has been chipped away at. I am not a pollyanna, but I do have legal training nd experience which makes me able to see that there are always as many sides to a story as there are people involved. I take things at face value unless I am shown the proof to be the opposite. It is, for me, the right and fair way to operate. It is sort of like the basis of our American system of justice where "Everyone is innocent until proven guilty". |
