I just did research about the alpha position. Very interesting.....it said if you get another dog, you must let them determine who will hold the alpha position. Once the alpha position is determined, you have to reinforce it, ie., by feeding alpha first, letting alpha have best sleeping area (preferably closest to you) and entering and exiting a room first. This article mentioned that if you don't allow the alpha to be alpha, that's when fighting occurs because they get confused. According to what I read, sex did not determine ranking. Look it up on line and see what you find. I think I just put alpha position in the google search.
