I leave my bowl down all day. You might want to check with your vet. I had a dog that never stopped peeing, and he was drinking so much water that he was washing all the salt out of his body. I had to keep the water bowl up for three days, putting it down three times a day for him to take a drink. The salt returned to his body, and he was fine.
