I was at the bank buying travelers checks to go to NY when someone told me. I was like so what a plane flew into a building what does that have to do with MY trip to NY. It was to be my son's first trip. This was one of those times when the people who were hearing it at work didn't know details. I assumed it was a small plane in some obscure building.
When i got home and turned the TV on I saw the gravity of the situation and found out that it wasn't a small plane that crashed. I was supposed to be traveling on September 11 but called and changed the date to the 12th, I was so thankful that I made that change a week before the 11th because It would have been heck to be on the way to NY and have your plain grounded in the middle of a flight and wondering what went on, especially with a child along for the trip.
I called all my friends to make sure they were on and found ones bf was a firefighter that ended up missing that day. It would be 5 years before i made my next trip back to NY. Usually i would make one trip a year. |
