All 3 of mine are microchipped, we only have one type here in the UK. They also wear tags, I see the microchip as the back up to the tag. If your dog is stolen then its easy for people to remove the tag but they can't remove the microchip, so if they ever take the dog to the vet or a rescue and it is scanned. You've got your dog back.
