I don't think it's particularly cruel, although I think their ears are much thinner than ours. It might hurt therm. I know I've pierced my own ears with a sterilized needle and a piece of ice. I do think it could be ripped out if your dog was playing with other dogs and that's why it's not a good idea in my mind.
I also think it's too over the top as far as accessorizing a dog but, again, that's just my opinion. I took my daughter and my 2 granddaughters to have their ears pierced as soon as possible, so my opinion is certainly based on society's rules, and maybe not so valid.
Lara2913 - I'd love to see pictures of your dog(s) with long tails. They must be beautiful! I think it's very interesting that tail docking and ear clipping are illegal in the UK. Is it considered unhealthy? Maybe it really is!
