When people tatoo a dog it is for an identification number, not to look cute. Microchipping is the same.
I do not agree with piercing babies/young childrens ears either though, not until they are an age where they can make their own decision about it.
But then again I do not agree with tail docking, ear clipping, or any of the other things people do to permanently alter their dog for the sake of appearance.
