There is a huge difference between me calling my yorkie rat or someone I know Jokingly calling my dog a rat and a stranger calling my dog a rat (unless you can just really tell they are joking). Was the neighbor joking? From your post I took it as she was kindof saying it in a derogatory way. Those of you with real children - wouldn't you think someone was rude if they came up and called your kid a brat or a rat? Same thing with our dogs - it's rude to walk up to a stranger and call their dog a rat. They don't even look like rats!! Who came up with that anyway??
