I am very sorry to hear about your little Darla having a collapsed trachea. My experience with a furbaby on Prednisone was very positive. My first yorkie, Laciebug had a terminal brain condition that caused swelling in the lining of the brain. After the diagnosis, the University of Gerogia vet's prognosis was very dim indeed. They sent her home with two weeks worth of meds and then told to contact my regular vet for follow. I found out later that through conversations between the University vets and my local vet, that they didn't expect her to live for the follow-up.

Laciebug was a real fighter and made it to the two week follow up and was put on a daily low dose of Prednisone. She lived for almost five years with little or no side affects. According to my local vet dogs don't generally experience the harsh side affects of the Prednisone that humans do.

Good luck to you and Darla - please keep us posted
