This was one of the commands the girls were taught when they went to school. Lillie goes down before I even give her the command. (Lillie is 14 months) Sadie just doesn't get it yet (Sadie is 3 1/2 yrs) You first have to make them sit, (make sure you have the treat in your hand) then tell them down, they are probably not going to do it so....take their front legs and slide them out in front of them and MAKE them go down...tell him/her to stay and make him/her stay for a couple of seconds...then say up (if he/she doesn't stand back up put your hand under their belly and make them stand) Praise her like she just won the lottery!! and give her/him their treat. Terriers have a mind of their own and are not known to be real easy in obedience. But, with consistency (only work with your furbaby 5 minutes at a time...you don't want him/her getting bored) you will get them to do this
