Veterinary crews are busy treating hundreds of animals seized from a puppy mill in Buxton. Authorities say 250 dogs were found sick, or nearly dead. Buxton P.D. says they helped the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook and the Animal Welfare Society seize the dogs from the "J'amie Kennel" Tuesday morning in Buxton and bring them in for testing. The animals are getting tested for giardia and sarcoptic mange. Both illnesses can pass from animal to human. The seizure comes after one of the puppies bought at the kennel tested positive for giardia. Buxton police say the kennel's owners, John and Heidi Frasca, are facing 17 court summons. Among them, two for animal cruelty and 14 for running an unlicensed kennel.
The state says unlicensed kennels, like the J'aime Kennel, are an emerging problem nationwide.
