I wouldn't automatically assume it was the heartguard that made her sick. I would give it another try first because most likely it was something else that made her sick and not the heartguard. If she throws up again then I might assume it was the heartguard but there are way too many things that can make a dog throw up to just assume this normally safe product caused it.

Also, When you give the heartguard do NOT divide the pieces. The meaty chew is INJECTED with the heartworm medicine. This means the medicine is most likely NOT evenly distributed in that chew. So giving your dog one half this month and one half next month does not work. One of those halves may have all the medicine and the other may not have any which means your dog is skipping a month of preventative.

The chew is supposed to be work and be safe for any dog under 25lbs so I wouldn't worry about it being too much.
