I don't know if he kicked a dog, but if he did, that would make me lose total respect for him.
I like some of his techniques and they DO work. But, there are others I don't like. I don't like that he says not to give affection unless they earn it and not to treat them like little people. We have spoiled the heck out of Jake, but he is still very well behaved and listens to us. He's not out of control or anything like some of the dogs he works with.
Also, there have been times when I've watched the show, and he will get the behavioral problems solved, but the dogs just don't seem the same to me. They don't seem as happy or something. Maybe it's just me.
