I have a friend with a yorkie that had one front dew claw (not sure if only one was removed or one grew back..). He tore it on the carpet and she had it removed. Your dog will have to be put under for removal of the dewclaw. It is basically an amputation of the bone and nail. I would go ahead an have it (and the one on the other leg) removed to keep him from injuring it again later.
