Vet prices are very expensive. I'm conflicted right now (i posted this in a post in the general discussion forum) but thought I'd post it here as well.
Yesterday I took Lucy to the vet for a puppy wellness exam ($42), 2 vaccines DHPP (13.50) and Rabies (13.50) and 1 revolution vial ($15) so my price was about a total of $90. Which in retrospect really isn't that bad, since I pay $30 just as a co-pay to see a doctor and I know the insurance company is paying a lot more. Oh and that price includes when I have to take her back in for her Bordatella in a few weeks.
The vet also included a Spay estimate and here is my dilemma, when I purchased Lucy I recieved a Free Spay Certificate at the local Animal Care Center, I have only been there twice for Lucy's initial exam and then for her 2nd set of vaccines because I had 2 free vet visits included with her as well. The certificate does say that "any additional diagnostic or laboratory services are not included under this agreement". I still need to call them and find out exactly what is included because that will also help me determine where I get her spayed. Anyway this is the cost break-down that my normal vet gave me yesterday:
I will be getting this bloodwork done regardless of where she gets spayed:
Pre-Surgical Profile 113 CVL (complete blood panel) $45
Bile Acids Pre & Post Prandial 257 IDEXX $90
Pre-diagnostic tests total $135
IV Fluids-Routine Surgery $45
Rimadyl Injection $26
Ovariohysterectomy-spay K9<30 lbs $180
Included in the spay is: Anesthesia-monitoring, toe nail trim, surgical
hospitalization, Buprenorphine injection (pain),
elizabethan collar $10
Rimadyl 25 mg. chewable (5 tablets) $10.25
Spay cost totals: $261.25
If I got all of this done the grand total would be $406.90
This just seems like so much...I know regardless I'll be paying that $135 but I'm just curious what do you think that other clinic meant by any additional diagnostic or laboratory services?
