In Paris, my yorkie is bleeding from Vagina My Yorkie, Diva was neutered in 2001. She is also a Liver Shunt survivor, had the surgery in 2002.
I work in europe during the summer and have been traveling with her for years. We are now in Paris and have been since June 7th.
On June 22 we left Paris & went on a vacation in the So. of France where it was hot. We often played in the pool and sometimes she would drink the chlorinated water.
The day after our vacation (July 1) we went to Basel Switzerland & she began to tuck her tail in and lick her vagina. Her appetite was and is normal, she pees and poops normally, and doesnt drink more than normal.
I took her to a vet there & they didnt see any blood in her urine. So they gave her antibiotics for 5 days and this should take care of it.
The meds didnt change a thing. A few days after the meds were done she began to bleed, still tucking, still licking. We were now back in Paris and it was July 15th.
In Paris, we went to yet another vet and he did a completely blood panel. All was normal except that her urine showed high alkalinity. He prescribed antibiotics for 10 days but DID NOT do a culture because she still had meds in her system from Basel.
During those 10 days she still tucked & still licked but the bleeding stopped. A few days after these meds were done, she began to bleed again.
This time we waited a week and on August 1st, he did a puncture into the bladder to draw out sterilized sample and went into the vagina with a scope. He did not see any polyps or growths but it noted that the inside was quite inflamed and red. He then took a culture of vagina and we are awaiting lab results. Becaue her urine was so alkaline (8) the vet prescribed Hills S/D to raise her acid levels which I think is crap since it has corn starch as the first ingredient. She is to eat this for a week.
Meanwhile as we await lab results she bleeds and licks and tucks.
I am at my wits end trying to deal with this in a foreign country.
I dont want to keep feeding her this crap, she is gaining weight and always hungry.
Does anyone have any idea what can be going on?
I am going crazy and very nervous about this whole experience. Plus we must have spent at least a thousand dollars in vets.
We leave Paris August 15th and thankfully go home back to Seattle.
