We have trained for either/both. That way we can leave for extended periods without worrying, but they also like to go outside. But I think it sometimes seems easier to potty train outside because ANYWHERE they go outside is a good spot. Whereas in the house, we want them to go in this little square foot area. It's harder to get it right!! We have won with Coby (5 months) but for a short while we had to either boundary him onto his puppy pad or use a leash when I knew he had to go. He did learn that he didn't get to leave until he went potty. Now, we're branching out into the other rooms of the house. But I think the easiest way to potty train is to make it nearly impossible to make a mistake. That makes the entire experience positive for both of you. We have a 10 year old that still demands a treat every time he potties whether it's inside or outside!!
