Congratulations on your new puppy!
To get my Tobi's fur nice and shiny, I put salmon oil in his food. This particular salmon oil I use is meant for pets, so check out your local pet stores. As far as the holding your pup goes, I'm sure he's just a little shy and nervous...he'll warm up to you in no time
