| We have tried the going outside for a few minutes at a time. I would say I am going to get the mail and then come back in and give her a treat when I take her oput of her crate. I did that for about a week and I thought it was working because she stopped barking finally. I also tried taping her when we wqent out for an hour or longer (I read that on here) she did stop the screeching after about 15 minutes according to the tape.
We have started taking her for a short ride in the car every night and usually will stop at the lake and have a treat for her there..share a few french fries (very special for her) she is fine until we get back in the car then she starts the whinning and shaking again. We have been doing that for about 3 weeks and it is getting no better. I first tried putting her in a soft crate thinking she woudl feel secure and no way..she wants to be on my lap and she still whines. So I tried those Quiet Time Pills but they don't seem to do much good. I don't know what I am going to do..we have to be in Chicago the second week in August and I hate leaving her in a kennel for all that time.. Quote:

I work in the eves so I am home with him all day. Then, to get him used to car rides, I would give him a special toy and/or treats that he got only in the car so that he would associate being in the car with something good. I would take him on short rides, like to the corner and back and increase the time. My daughter lives about an hour away, so we take him with me whenever we go to visit. Now, he LOVES riding in the car and mostly looks out the window or sleeps. He doesn't shake or act afraid. In fact, he gets very excited if I ask him if he wants to go bye-bye. He is very rarely left alone, but he does really well with it now. You just have to be consistent and try to make her understand that you WILL be back and give her some kind of reward that she only gets in the car. Good luck! | |
