Jake used to shake and whine a little when he would see me getting dressed for work. He also didn't like riding in the car. I started leaving the house several times throughout the day, taking my keys and just going outside for 2-3 minutes at first and then slowly increasing the time. I work in the eves so I am home with him all day. Then, to get him used to car rides, I would give him a special toy and/or treats that he got only in the car so that he would associate being in the car with something good. I would take him on short rides, like to the corner and back and increase the time. My daughter lives about an hour away, so we take him with me whenever we go to visit. Now, he LOVES riding in the car and mostly looks out the window or sleeps. He doesn't shake or act afraid. In fact, he gets very excited if I ask him if he wants to go bye-bye. He is very rarely left alone, but he does really well with it now. You just have to be consistent and try to make her understand that you WILL be back and give her some kind of reward that she only gets in the car. Good luck! |
