Love Tale of runaway Yorkie has a happy ending for family

A mother from the South Beach section of Staten Island feared the worst when she learned Tuesday that Mylo, her children's Yorkshire Terrier, had escaped from a Tompkinsville kennel while her family was on vacation.

But the family was spared further heartbreak today when the tiny pooch was safely returned to All Pets Animal Hospital after someone recognized the 4-year-old silver and beige teacup Yorkie on posters hung up in the neighborhood.

"I can't even describe how relieved I am," said Gina Philbin, who left July 12 for a two-week vacation in Florida with her husband and kids, James, 15, Briana, 13 and Jeanne, 10; as well the children's grandparents, aunts and uncles. She did not tell her kids that the dog had gone missing before he was found. "I just broke down and cried. It saved my trip. It saved a lot of heartache we would have had when we came home."

Something apparently spooked Mylo, who weighs in at just five pounds, as he was being brought in from the Van Duzer Street animal hospital's exercise area on Monday, Ms. Philbin said.

The dog walker, who was carrying Mylo and another dog, was bit on hand and put Mylo down. The frightened Yorkie ran toward the fence and managed to escape through a small hole dug by another dog, she said.
