I just had Joey to the vet to have his teeth cleaned. I have been growing his coat out and it's 3/4 to the floor. WHY do they have to shave his arm down to IV him?

Does anyone's vet do this when their pups are put under anesthesia?

I adore my vet and I'm just wondering if this is common practice.
