We had collars with their tags on them for a long time and then they wore a harness too. But there are so many tags on it now (ID tag with our phone #, rabies tag, city license, avid chip tag) it is getting bulky and heavy for our babies and they are big 12-13 lbs. It is probably worse for the little tiny Yorkie babies. I asked our city if they would consider getting smaller, lighter tags for small dogs, but I don't know if they will do it.
I decided to do away with the collars when we are walking so there isn't so much stuff on them. I recently put the tags on the chest-area ring on the harness. I got one of those clip-on thingys so I can easily take it off and move it to a collar or other place. I just make sure that the tags are on the outside of the harness when we walk, and not between the harness and the dog where it would probably be uncomfortable.
